WE ARE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR IDEAS FOR POTENTIAL NEW PRODUCTIONS and we want to encourage anyone in the club to approach the committee with an idea. However to ensure that everyone understands what happens next we have updated the guidelines. The procedure is very straightforward and when followed will create a working document that will be useful to the producer/director. Please continue to bring us your ideas.
- In preparing a case for a club production, applicants should say how the production will benefit the club, for example:
- Does it provide opportunities for several members to be actively involved in film making?
- Does the production involve working with the community of Bristol?
- Is it an unusual or interesting subject matter something that might attract new members to the club?
- Does the production demonstrate the technical skills of BFVS a fact that might attract new members?
- Is one of the objects of the production to develop the skills of participating members - eg assistant directors to become directors etc?
- Also as part of the outline business plan details on the following ought to be provided:
- Run time, cast size, crew size
- Principal Purpose – e.g. for national competition entry or training exercise
- Who are the intended audiences
- Another benefit of the film becoming a BFVS production is that it will be covered by both the club insurance and the club’s IAC Music License. Further details below:
GUIDELINES
- An idea for a club production is presented to the committee. If accepted in principle, a preliminary script or treatment is written for consideration, a producer and director are appointed, an outline business plan is submitted and the production given the go-ahead.
- The producer has overall control of the production and is responsible for all financial, logistical and crewing matters, whilst the director has final say on all technical and artistic aspects.
- The producer/director appoints a technical crew of his choice from club members and a full business plan including a budget for the production is proposed by the producer and director and presented to the committee for approval.
- Regular reports are given to the committee during both filming and post-production.
- The committee reserves the right to assume charge of all aspects of the production should serious problems arise.
- The finished film is then owned by the club and they have the right to enter it into competitions if they so wish.
