New Bouncers for BFVS Meetings?

On June 15th the Society played host to the filming of scenes from the low budget feature film "Uncertain Proof" a film about the 'murder' of King Edward II at Berkeley Castle in the 14th Century. The evening included green screen shots of an angry crowd, plague victims, and a solitary peasant. The evening ended with the recording of crowd noises.

BFVS members were behind the cameras and recording the sound and the rest were roped in as extras where they joined actors from local drama groups.

'Uncertain Proof' is being made by some of the BFVS through a Community Interest Company, Bristol Films.

WE WIN the Ray Toleman Memorial Trophy.
BFVS has won the Gloucester Inter-Club Competition again. You will remember that we won with "Vernon's Permutation" a few years ago. This time we won with a specially edited version of Julian Baldwin's film called "The Bath Buildathon".

The G.I-C.C. is a competition held annually amongst 7 clubs situated in the area in and near Gloucestershire. This year the competition was hosted by Worcester Camcorder Club and next year it will be the turn of BFVS to do the honours.

First prize of £50 and the challenge trophy went to Gordon Young for his excellent documentary "Through Ticket to New York" about the building of the Great Western Railway and the onward route to NY by paddle steamer.
December 2009
THE ANNUAL TROPHY COMPETITION.

It was full house again for the screening of our Annual Trophy Competition at the clubroom. Seven videos were shown and after each one the judge, professional lighting cameraman Stewart Mackay, gave his critique.
After a break to consume large amounts of Christmas Fare the results were announced and Stewart awarded prizes and commented on the very high standard of entries.

SECOND PRIZEof a pack of DV tapes went to Julian Baldwin for his rather specialised educational film on an Amateur Radio building project, "The Bath Buildathon".

Highly commended was David Wilkins', "The Making of The Wigan Girls" on the subject of the production of a large scale community play in Thornbury, Bristol.

RED CAM DEMO

Mark Whatmore of local production company Yoho Media proudly showed off one of his Red cam '4K' camcorders. Not surprisingly, there was much technical discussion and - dare we say - talk of pixels! While presently being beyond the financial reach of our members, kit like this often indicates the course of new technology, and Red cam certainly leads the way. And there will soon be a version at a very much more attractive price...

BLUE-RAY PLAYER DEMO

TEWKESBURY YMCA VIDEO CAMERA CLUB invited us to a gathering of anyone interested to see their new projector and Blu-ray player. Initially expected to be a gathering of just three people (as if!), members from many nearby clubs - including four members of BFVS - couldn't resist the offer, and nearly filled the meeting room.
Many thanks to Matt and Paul for hosting.

Gloucester Cine and Video Club asked BFVS to judge their annual competition, and three of our committee travelled north to present the results and prizes. Although the scores were close, 'New Shoes for Monty', which showed the work of a farrier, swept the board winning the cup for Best Sound (presented by Julian Baldwin, our own sound expert) and also a magnificent trophy for Best Overall (presented by David Wilkins, our Chairman).

RED CAM DEMO

We hope to show members a Red cam 4K Ultradef camera and discuss the advantages of this format. Even though considered a top-end piece of kit, it will demonstrate the future of High Definition recording, and may well be more accessable than you thought. Come along and drool! Watch this space for confirmation.
