"Writing for Television" by William Smethurst How To Books, ISBN 1-85703-273-X |
- easy to read and often amusing (a recommendation in itself!) this recently published book gives an insight into the process of writing for television. It mentions the sort of fees that are paid and the production costs of some popular TV series. There are several pages of contact addresses for broadcast TV, independent production companies and writers agents, along with other relevant titles in the same series. Well worth a look.

"Independent Filmmaking" by Lenny Lipton ISBN 068 646 2432
UK edition published by |
First published in the USA in 1972 by publishers Straight Arrow Books, and written for those using 8mm and 16mm film cameras, this book was considered a reference work. It may still be available by ordering from bookshops, or try secondhand bookshops or your local library. Very detailed and with many pages, if you are into blooping, halation and reciprocity then this is definitely for you! With loads of info on cameras, soundtracks, filmstock and processing, it might also be of interest to animators, but it is of limited use to those now using the new-fangled video stuff.

While we're on the subject, if you're after some 16mm film stock, try:
The Stockshop or for 8mm equipment, film and processing:
The Widescreen Centre
Bernard Hunter Photographic ... but you probably knew that already.
